A face turned toward something higher, drawn in warm red chalk as a study in reverent devotion. It belongs to a set of copies after Charles Le Brun, the court painter to Louis XIV who catalogued human emotions for French art students, published as a guide in 1698. Basically a 17th century emoji keyboard, beautifully drawn.
