About Motley

What is Motley?

Motley is a small print shop where fine art meets the smoking section. We dig through archives and museums to bring you bold, weird, and wonderful prints that look way more expensive than they are. Art for your walls, not your wallet.

How does it work?

Browse the gallery, find something you love, choose your print size, and check out. We handle the printing, packaging, and shipping straight to your door. Think of it like an art gallery that delivers.

What makes Motley different?

We're very cool and have amazing taste in art. Just like you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Products

What kind of paper do you use?

Each piece is printed on premium archival paper with rich inks for vivid color and crisp detail. Sizes are standardized to keep things simple and affordable.

What are the frames made of?

Lightweight composite. Fancy way of saying it looks great, won't warp, and doesn't weigh enough to rip your drywall out. You're welcome.

What colors do frames come in?

Black, white, and natural wood. Classic options for indecisive decorators. They all look good. Pick one. Or three.

Is it glass?

No glass here. The cover is a shatter-resistant material that's just as clear but significantly less dangerous when gravity happens.

Can I hang it both ways?

Go both ways? We love that for you. Orientation is rarely a choice, but it is for your art. Hardware's included for portrait or landscape, plus a built-in easel if you'd rather just prop it somewhere casual.

Does it come with a mat?

Nope—prints arrive matless and free. If you want that gallery-wall look, any standard mat from a craft store will do the trick. We believe in you.

Orders

How long does shipping take?

Orders are typically printed and shipped within 5–7 business days. Shipping times vary by location, but most U.S. orders arrive within two weeks.

How will my print arrive?

**Unframed prints** ship in sturdy cardboard tubes. When you unroll your print, it'll want to curl back up like a sleepy armadillo. Give it a few days under some heavy books, or simply frame it and skip the waiting game entirely. **Framed prints** arrive in a box, ready to hang. No flattening, no fuss, no existential struggle against The Curl.

Can I return or exchange a print?

If your print arrives damaged or there's a printing error, we'll happily replace it. Because each print is made to order, we can't accept returns for personal preference, but if something's off, email us at orders@motleyprints.com and we'll make it right.

Can I buy wholesale from you?

Hell yeah! We offer wholesale pricing and even some additional services for small businesses. We have a minimum of 50 prints for wholesale orders. Currently, all wholesale orders are unframed, but each print comes with a backing board in protective sleeves. Use the Contact Form to get started.

Do you do bulk orders?

Yes! We can accommodate up to 250 prints at a time. Use the Contact Form to initiate a bulk order. Please provide as much information as possible about the images, including their size and quantity.

The Important Stuff

Who are the artists?

Motley sources designs from public domain archives, museums, and libraries. That means most of the artists are super dead, but damnit, they made cool stuff while they were alive. Every print includes credits and metadata when available. We love honoring original artists and preserving creative heritage.

Why is Hieronymus Bosch so unhinged?

We don't know, but we're pretty sure he was fun at parties. The man painted a guy getting kissed by a pig while a demon notarized the paperwork. We just print 'em.

Why do so many old paintings have weird-looking babies?

Renaissance artists were incredible at painting fabric, architecture, and human suffering. But babies? Not so much. We think babies weren't invented until much later.
