Everyone in 1860 Edo called it a tiger. It was a leopard, and it was busy eating a rooster. Hirokage painted the "Tiger of Ryōkoku" straight from one of the exotic imported cats put on display as a paid spectacle, back when a big spotted cat was the most exciting thing in town. Gorgeous, slightly menacing, and confidently mislabeled.
