Printed in blue black on yellow paper, this is Jan Toorop's poster design for Johan Wagenaar's cantata The Shipwreck. Toorop was a leading Dutch Symbolist who slid gracefully into Art Nouveau, all sinuous lines and dramatic mood. Two colors, one shipwreck, maximum atmosphere. A concert poster from 1899 that still outclasses most gig flyers.
