A dark haired woman in a white tunic gathers a heavy wine red robe across her body, a fine gold band in her hair, a serpent bracelet coiled at her wrist, her eyes lowered and entirely unreadable. Anselm Feuerbach built a career on this kind of grave classical beauty, painting his Roman model Anna Risi as though she had walked straight out of antiquity.
