Madame Paul Escudier, born Louise Lefevre, painted by a 26 year old John Singer Sargent in 1882 and signed in red. This was Sargent's Paris period, just before the Madame X scandal sent him packing to London. He was already the guy everyone wanted to paint them, and you can see why: effortless brushwork, total poise.
