Julia Jackson sits for her aunt, the pioneering photographer Julia Margaret Cameron, in a portrait printed in warm albumen. Cameron loved soft focus and long, searching exposures, and her niece was one of her favorite subjects. Jackson later became the mother of Virginia Woolf, so this is, in a sense, a portrait of the start of modern literature.
