A golden pheasant in red, gold, green and stippled blue sits on a snowbank while bamboo leans in overhead, all of it against solid black. The rubbing-print technique gives the snow a speckled, granular edge that ordinary woodblock cannot do. Every color in the bird is fighting the black and winning.
